U.S. EERE Technology Targets

Technology Targets

A specific way that states can tune EERE policies is by targeting specific technologies. For this project, the technologies have been categorized as:

Appliances - Residential and commercial equipment not used for heating and cooling
Buildings - Building-specific requirements, management techniques, and controls
Fuels - Energy sources from different fuel types (e.g. biomass, battery technology, gas, etc.)
Geothermal - Geothermal direct-use and Geothermal electric technologies
HVACR - Residential and commercial heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, refrigeration, and water heating equipment
Hydroelectric - Hydroelectric and other water-based technologies
Solar - Photovoltaic and other solar technologies
Wind - Wind technologies
Other

Luckily, the DSIRE dataset contains information about these commonly targeted technologies in the U.S.

Hover over the tiles to see the exact counts. Some technologies are more commonly featured in certain incentive structures compared to others. Additionally, some policies may target multiple technologies (i.e. a building code that requires changes to insulation requirements and installation requirements for an air-conditioner).

Finally, we can take a look at how different sectors implement these policies.

EERE policy data comes from DSIRE and ACEEE. More information can be found on each organization's respective website. Feel free to check out my GitHub for help with pulling data from the DSIRE API.
